What I'm Reading Today: Julie & Julia

I missed this book and the well-publicized movie that was made from it, so when I spotted it in the bargain bin at a local bookstore, I couldn't pass it up. I'm finding it entertaining, but a lot of readers apparently didn't. Fortunately, the reviews are fairly specific, so read some of them and decide for yourself whether this might be one you'd like.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and the movie! I read her blog during the tail end of her adventure so maybe there was that bit of "I was there" feeling but nonetheless a fun read and a fun movie!

  2. Mom and I watched the DVD, it was pretty good, though I don't know how anyone could cook every recipe in that book and not have leftovers spilling out of the fridge. In the movie, they had friends over sometimes, so that would cut down on the leftovers. Bet she and her husband had some interesting lunches to take to work the next day!

  3. Alison, I enjoyed the book, too. Kim saw the movie and liked it a lot. Wish I'd known about the blog, but in those days I didn't even know there was such a thing.

Janet, I had the same thoughts about the leftovers. I like cooking enough of something that I can eat leftovers for a couple of days, and it breaks my heart to have to throw out perfectly edible food. Speaking of "edible," that project would have ended for me with the kidneys, liver, and brains. Can't even imagine a sauce good enough to make me want to taste those organ meats.
